  • United Nations Office at Nairobi (hereinafter referred to as UNON) on behalf of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) Uganda invites qualified interested firms to submit Expressions of Interest (EOI) to participate in the upcoming solicitation for the Provision of Equipment Rental Services for the rehabilitation of the Kiteezi dumpsite through implementing the Fukuoka Method, Kiteezi, Kampala, Uganda. The overall objective of the Technical Emergency Support Project is to contribute to the establishment of resilient, safe and sustainable environmental administration systems for Kampala Capital City Administration through the implementation of the Fukuoka Method of solid waste management and contribute to inclusive and sustainable urban development and economic growth in Kampala.Background:The Government of Uganda, together with the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), has made sustainable waste management a key priority. On August 10, 2024, a tragic incident occurred at the Kiteezi dumpsite involving a landslide and explosions, highlighting the urgent need for emergency intervention. In response, the government has committed to immediately decommission the Kiteezi dumpsite and KCCA is actively seeking to transition waste management to new sites. However, the complete decommissioning and relocation process is expected to take more than 18 months.
